Ribeiro do Meio Waterfall
Lencois, Brazil

Difficulty:

Time Required:
25 minutes each way

Summary:

This beautiful pitch-black waterfall is right outside of the town of Lencois, and is easily accessed by a well marked path through dry forest.

How to do it:
Starting in Praca Nagos , the main square of Lencois, head up the hill on Rua das Pedras. After two blocks take a left on Rua da Baderna. In two more blocks you will reach a church at Praca do Rosario, take a right and continue up this street until it becomes a path. Follow the path for about 20 minutes and you will come to the Ribeirao do Meio. The water is pitch black with decomposing sediment, but is great for swimming. Just be careful if you jump in because you won’t be able to see shallow rocks under the water. You can slide down the waterfall on your butt if you are feeling adventurous. It is a gorgeous place, definitely worth the walk. Local tour agencies will offer a tour of this waterfall, but it is a very easy walk from town and does not require a guide of any sort.
